這首歌表達了一個被母親遺棄的孩子（已經長大成人）在面對著逝世的母親時的複雜心情。

一方面，他對母親一直忽視、排斥、遺棄他而感到憎恨；

另一方面，他又深深地愛著他的母親，即使她從來沒愛過他，他為母親獻上了最後一曲催眠曲，送她離世；但同時，他又不會為她而流淚。

此歌帶有深深陰鬱感。整首樂曲帶來的感覺是黑暗、恐懼、肅穆，

又帶著唱詩一般的虔誠，有一種靈異，聖潔，幽怨，壓抑的感覺。

這首歌經常被認為是所謂“死亡歌曲”《懺悔曲》。

可能是其感覺很像教堂音樂，又比較壓抑的緣故。

整首歌由強烈而緩慢的鼓點伴奏，使上述的感覺更加強烈。
